We're in Jaipur!
And we love it!!!! On Friday we picked up A's insurance papers and found our way out of town. Jaipur is 250kms from Delhi and it took us about 6.5 hours - there was quite a bit of traffic and navigation at both ends (and we stopped once for the loo and a drink of water) but the road in between was sweet. Well...there was that goat herd that decided to cross the road as we were coming along and I got to test my emergency braking and just missed his dog...and then there was the guy that had just about enough waiting to cross the road and yanked his camel cart out and cut A off. It was brilliant though, I love it!
Jaipur is FANTASTIC! There is so much less hassle than Delhi and the English schools are doing well - we are serenaded by a cheery "Hello" from most people as we walk through the streets. We have had groups of people ask to have their picture taken, and as we were walking through town today we came upon a group of very beautifully dressed girls. They surrounded us and we exchanged hellos, handshakes and names and then I took their photo...they loved it! So did we. We have had a day of climbing - first the tower and then the hill above the city, and it is a big city - and very beautiful! (photos are coming!)
We have eaten some fabulous food...well most of the food we have had has been delicious! Can you tell we are just buzzing? Ah, this is why we came all this way!!!!
Ok, get your maps out.....here is what the next few days looks like: tomorrow morning we leave for Bundi - it's supposed to be a quietish town and in the evening a pack/swarm/herd (whichever collective :) of bats leaves the old palace on the hill and heads for the trees. The next morning we will head for Ujjain and hit our first Hindu temple city...5 big temples in town! After that we are heading for the Ajanta Caves and Ellora, not sure where we will stay, but we will probably spend 3 nights in the area if we also decide to go see the Lonar meteor crater. Then I think Pune and then Goa...the land of fiery fish curries and massive prawns! We will keep you updated as we go along...internet cafes permitting :)
Goodnight!
